Los Angeles, CA -- Not to be outdone by reports that the British Secret Service's codename for Obama was 'smart aleck' during his visit to Britain this week, several Latin American countries were quick to release their own codenames given to the president when he last visited.
In Mexico, it was revealed that during his last visit, Obama's codename was "El Pinche Negro", while his codename for his visit prior to last was "Kalimba". Mexican officials said that the negative tone of the most recent codename was due to Obama's false hopes and promises given to Mexicans in the US.
In Honduras, their codename for the president was "El Negro Jose" during his last visit and "Pof Dari" during his first visit, while in El Salvador, the president was codenamed "Sorullo" during his visit this year.
"The British are not the only ones that can come up with clever names", said Antonio Villareal, head of Mexico's Secret Service Division. "Latin Americans know a thing or two about giving a person one... or two... or three nicknames".
But while the British immediately said that the insulting codename was chosen at random by a computer program, Mexico, Honduras, and El Salvador did not follow suit. Instead, these Latin American countries were actually proud to have chosen those codenames for Obama and even awarded prizes to the people that thought of the codenames.
"Racist? No... the lines get blurred a bit better and smoother in Latin America", said Daniel Garcia, the head of Honduras' Secret Service. "We don't have the complicated slave history that the US has. Down here, we all just mixed like it was 1999 for several hundred years. What might be considered offensive and racist nicknames for blacks in America are just common nicknames for us".
Venezuela's president Hugo Chavez agreed, and said his new permanent nickname for Obama is "El Demonio Negro", as opposed to "El Demonio", which was his nickname for former president Bush.
