Los Angeles, CA -- Events on immigration reform are being held throughout the year by Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis. They are being billed as a continuation of the national conversation on immigration that President Obama started in his speech on May 10.
In other words, the events don't mean squat.
That doesn't mean, however, that the conversations on immigration reform are not inspiring and uplifting. Many give Hilda Solis points for effort; on a scale of 1 to 10, she gets a 9 for presentation(nice colors and stuff), an 8 for creativity (part speech, part town hall-style conversations), and a 10 for uplifting message(people leave in high hopes); But, she does get a 0 in terms of actual results(Republicans, you see, have a chokehold on immigration – Democrats can't even stop deportations, for Chuy's sake! let alone full immigration reform).
Nonetheless, as part of her efforts, Hilda Solis held an event in East Los Angeles College last week, and this week she was in Albuquerque, New Mexico; that event, however, had to be rescheduled due to a pesky Republican refusing to open the door to the Barelas Economic Opportunity Center, where the event was to be held. Unable to force the guy's hands off the door handle, Hilda's team took down his name and said they would report him to daddy Obama for disciplinary action. Hilda then told the attendees that the event on immigration reform would have to be rescheduled because a nasty Republican was blocking the passage.
Before leaving, a group of angry people told Hilda that she should stop using the headline "immigration reform" in future events, because that implies some type of reform. Instead, they told her to name the events the following: "a meeting to attempt to set up an exploratory committee to determine if Republicans are willing to let us hold possible talks on immigration reform".
