Chicago, IL -- In a show of strength today, the group "Tall and Beautiful" staged protests against Mexican music across Mexico and several cities in the US. The protesters called on all tall Latinas to boycott Mexican music, claiming discrimination against them by a powerful music industry and artists infatuated with chaparritas. They also called for the specific boycott of Ramon Ayala until he releases the equivalent of "chaparra de mi amor" for tall Latinas.
The leader of the group, Elena Rodriguez, accused the music industry of perpetrating great harm on her fellow sisters. She claims that Mexican songs unfairly represent tall women by disproportionately romanticizing chapparitas, regardless of the fact that tall Latinas are just as beautiful and gorgeous. She cited the group's own research showing that for every song glorifying tall Latinas, there are ten songs that glorify chapparitas.
When asked about a music executive's comments that tall Latinas are simply jealous, Elena dismissed his words as ignorant. She alleged that the songs give impressionable Latino teens a sense that chaparritas are better, and predisposes these teens to grow up and seek relationships with chapparitas instead of tall Latinas. Elena pointed to other research by her group that suggest tall women struggle more to find a Latino partner, might question themselves more, and are more likely to have self-esteem issues because they see chaparritas getting all the attention.
When asked about Ramon Ayala, she explains that he was singled out because his song "chaparra de mi amor" has single handedly ruined thousands of tall Latina's relationships, as their partners often left them for chapparitas after hearing that song. She promised that the group will continue the pressure until Ramon Ayala writes "Altita de mi amor" and until songs are written in equal proportions for both chaparritas and "Altitas".
Elena also confirmed that "Tall and Beautiful" will help the group "Gueritas United" stage similar protests against the same Music industry for overwhelmingly favoring Morenitas.
