Forget dignity: Anthony Weiner resigned because his twitter and facebook activity was going to be monitored

Former New York Rep. Anthony Weiner will have you believe he resigned from office because of the scandal and distractions caused by his lewd messages to random women, but his post-resignation twitter messages say otherwise.
Following the press conference where he officially resigned, Weiner sent private twitter messages to a few of his female followers telling them he actually resigned because his twitter and facebook accounts were going to be monitored periodically by the House ethics committee, as a consequence for his actions.
Forget ethics, morality, dignity, and all that silly stuff politicians would have you believe they uphold. Weiner doesn't have a modicum of that. Calls from both Republicans and Democrats for Weiner to step down, in addition to the media circus, were not enough to make the former Representative cave; but, restricting his social network accounts, effectively restricting the amount of indecent activity he engages in, was.
A humbled Weiner may have apologized to everyone during his resignation yesterday, but his words were not sincere. Nor were his so called feelings of regret, because the only thing Weiner regrets is being stupid enough to get caught and having to face greater scrutiny as a result.
But if his post-resignation twitter messages teach us anything, besides the fact that Weiner is an idiot for continuing to send foolish tweets, is that the decision to monitor his activity on twitter and facebook by the House ethics committee may have been too harsh. For how can he, a public servant sent to Washington DC to fight for the common man, be expected to perform his duties and maintain some level of decency at the same time. It almost seems outrageous; impossible.
Politicians know this, and we do too.
Every other politician on Capital Hill has at one point or another choked a prostitute or two. In fact, there's probably a Republican or Democrat(party affiliation has nothing to do with it) choking one at this very moment, as John Boehner cheers him on.
What's a few inappropriate messages from Weiner in the big scheme of things? other politicians have stayed in office, despite engaging in debauchery so sick, it makes Weiner's behavior look more like that of Mother Theresa.
Perhaps Weiner should have been given a pass on this one. After all, he didn't even get sex out of any of his female followers.
In any regard, fair or unfair, Weiner made the rookie mistake of not knowing how to contain his secrets, which cost him his social networking privileges. Unable to pursue sex in cyberspace and get that daily fix of sleazy activity needed by every politician, the former New York Representative decided it would be best to resign and give a textbook excuse for doing so - blah blah blah, distractions, blah blah blah, my wife, etc etc.
Puñal.
