East Los Angeles, CA -- La Opinion reports that during their visit to Los Angeles this weekend, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge turned down an invitation by East LA Raza to eat tacos in the hood - by the corner of Wilshire and Garfield in East LA.
The invite was sent by East LA Raza after they found out Prince William and Kate had a fondness for Mexican food, having ordered cochinita pibil tacos when they attended a black-tie dinner with Hollywood executives, celebrities, and British talent in Beverly Hills.
"You wouldn't visit Italy and then go to the Olive Garden(if they have one there) to eat Italian food, so why would you visit LA and eat tacos in Beverly Hills?" asked Rogelio Quintanilla, a local taquero from East Los Angeles and one of the people who wrote the invitation so that the royals could eat authentic tacos while in LA.
The invite - signed by a total of 30 people - was sent Saturday evening and was almost immediately declined, disappointing many in East LA.
"I heard they declined because it[East LA] wasn't classy enough for them. We offered to roll out a red carpet to the taco stand, but apparently that wasn't good enough", said Sandy Aldovar, a proud taquera from East Los Angeles. "Too bad – for them. They don't know what they missed out on".
No specifics are known as to why Prince William and Kate declined to eat authentic Mexican tacos in East LA, but many say it was because the royal couple was under the impression that the invite was a prank, given that most high-class celebrities visiting LA don't know that there's an entire part of Los Angeles called East Los Angeles.
