Fresno, CA -- A day after Governor Jerry Brown signed AB130 into law, a bill that allows undocumented students to apply for $88 million in private scholarship funds, it was revealed that Gov. Brown had been hustled by a group of Mexicans into signing the bill.
According to the Associated Press, Gov. Brown was visiting Roosevelt Park in Fresno, CA when he was invited to join a group of Mexicans who routinely hang out at the park and play Conquian, the incredibly addictive Mexican card game.
Within 2 hours of playing Conquian, Gov. Brown had lost all his loose change, his dog "Lucky", and two of his vehicles. It is reported that instead of quitting, Gov. Brown called for a winner take all game and wagered his wife.
The shrewd Mexicans, who knew that Jerry Brown has a history of gambling, asked him to wager the California Dream Act – along with his wife. The request is said to have offended Gov. Brown, who told the Mexicans that the entire Dream Act was too much to ask for. He agreed to wager just half of it – the least attractive part – and lost.
Aides report that once the game ended, Gov. Brown was invited to play again next month - and to come ready to wager the second part of the California Dream Act, to which Gov. Brown replied: "I'd love to fellas, but after today's gamble, I don't think they'll let me near you guys for a while – maybe in about 10 years you guys can get the second half of the California Dream Act from my successor".
