Los Angeles, CA -- In the latest sign that illegal immigration is hurting American jobs, spiderman became the first superhero to lose his job to a Latino.
The announcement was made this week by Marvel Comics, which said that a scrawny, mixed-race character of Latino and black descent (i.e., a Latino) named Miles Morales had replaced pasty-white Peter Parker in the Ultimate Spider-Man series.
Brian Michael Bendis, who has written every issue of Ultimate Spider-Man, said he wanted to create a new character that came from a completely different background and world-view, but according to many, Bendis is distorting the truth and spinning a financially motivated decision.
"Hollywood's worst kept secret is that they hire tons of illegal immigrants to fill roles in movies", stated Art Harrison, an industry insider who believes Peter Parker was conveniently killed off and replaced by a Latino to save money in the upcoming Ultimate Spider-Man blockbuster movies.
According to Harrison, superhero movies are facing budget crisis after budget crisis due to the incomprehensible amount of white actors, white supporting actors, and white extras who routinely feature in superhero movies and which demand top services and top pay for their work.
By featuring a Latino spiderman, Harrison says movie makers will not only save millions by hiring dozens of underpaid illegal actors to feature in the Latino themed scenes, but they will also save in related expenses, such as catering services and transportation fees.
"A typical white actor demands an array of accommodations during the shooting of a film, such as food", said Harrison. "Illegal immigrant actors can work on one meal a day and no breaks, not to mention the fact that they do things twice as efficient and can switch roles on the spot. For example, they can assume the role of electrician if the power goes out or that of a plumber if there are issues with the water system".
Marvel denied the allegations that their decision is a financially motivated one, saying that the idea of a multi-ethnic spiderman has long been in the works. "To claim that our decision is motivated by money is ludicrous", stated Bendis. "We have long wanted a superhero of color – since the 1940s. We just hadn't been able to get one because they [minority superheroes] are so darn difficult to draw".
Casting for the role of Miles Morales is set to begin early next year. Let's just hope the recession is not over by then; otherwise, the role of spiderman might go to a white guy.
